Banished: slow track for Australian broadcast of Banished and Wolf Hall

According to this website, Banished will be shown in Australia, on BBC First in June. Along with Wolf Hall, Banished is not one of the fast tracked shows being broadcast on the new channel.  

New period dramas Banished and Wolf Hall may be drawing big audiences in the UK but Australian audiences will be forced to wait for them on BBC First. Wolf Hall, starring Damian Lewis as Henry VIII and Claire Foy as Anne Boleyn, premiered in the UK in January. Averaging 4.4 million viewers it has become the biggest drama on BBC2 since 2002. But it won’t premiere in Australia until Saturday April 11th, nearly four months after its UK launch.

The finale of Banished has been included in several online TV Picks for tonight. Don't miss it! 9pm on BBC2. And remember to hashtag #renewBanished during and after the show on Twitter!

And will the soldiers be able to keep order if “brave, principled, heroic” Tommy does meet his end? Such are the questions that underpin the final episode of Jimmy McGovern’s penal colony saga. As answers emerge, there’s precious little let-up in the brutality. Despite nagging misgivings about the way it sometimes slips into sentimentality, Banished surely deserves another series. Guardian

Banished: has real potential for a returning series

Banished scored its first sale at this year's MIPTV, to Israel's Yes channel, according to TB Vision (pre-sales were already announced by BBCWW). Televisual included Banished in its list of top picks for MIPTV, and Paul Dempsey, president of global markets at BBC Worldwide has been selling its potential. 

Banished has so much to offer international buyers and is a key title for BBC Worldwide. Even though it is set in 18th Century, it’s also a contemporary and very relatable story about friendship, betrayal and the fight for survival. This is fantastic original, big budget British drama, shot in a stunning setting and has real potential for a returning series.
