Another new review for The Rover has been shared on this website, with some kind words to say about Joseph as Willmore. The Rover runs at the RSC until February 2017 - plenty of time to see it yet!

Joseph Millson is tremendous as the Rover, part Brian Blessed, part Blackadder’s Lord Flashheart. He company could so easily prove tiresome, but it never does, so fine is Millson’s sense of timing and physical comedy, and so tangible his underlying sense of humanity.

THE RETURN OF THE ROVER

Joseph is back at the Swan playing the main role of Willmore in The Rover. He was last here ten years ago when he was Benedick in Marianne Elliott’s Much Ado about Nothing and Faulconbridge, the bastard, in Josie Rourke’s King John; both plays were well received by theatre critics. Michael Billington found him an unusual Benedick, passionately obsessed with Beatrice in a magnificent production, and Dominic Cavendish spoke of his mesmerising anger as Faulconbridge.

So, some 50 years on from Shakespeare, how different is this play?

The RSC has a hit on its hands with a revival of the Restoration comedy by Aphra Behn, the extraordinary playwright who predated the current glut of female writers in theatre by several hundred years.
